Grays Harbor County - Wishkah Road Flood Levee Project

  << Back

Update from Ryan Bartelheimer     7/13/2014

  • Hydraulic modeling is underway to finalize recommended top elevation of proposed flood wall and quantify expected level of flood protection that will be provided.
  • Field work has been completed to delineate wetlands within the project area and identify fish species present.  Memo summarizing findings of the aquatic species inventory is nearing completion as is the wetland report.
  • Cultural resources inventory has been completed in the project area with cultural resources report nearing completion.
  • Appraisals have been completed on both parcels east of Wishkah Road.
  • One parcel has two small areas of lead contamination.
  • Negotiations are underway regarding purchase of the two properties and clean-up of the one with potential contamination.
  • Both of these activities (purchase and cleanup) if protracted, could compromise overall project budget and schedule.
  • 30% design is still expected in July 2014.
  • 60% design (end-August 2014) won’t be completed and permit applications won’t be submitted until property acquisitions have occurred or there is certainty that the aquisition process will be successfully completed.
  • 100% design (April 2015) is still realistic, as long as the property aquisition process doesn’t cause a significant delay in release of the 60% design and submittal of permit applications.
