About this page 

This page is to provide useful links and information to people interested in Ecology’s work to improve air quality in overburdened communities highly impacted by air pollution.  

Background & History  

In 2021, after passage of the WA Climate Commitment Act, Ecology began work directed by the environmental justice section of the act. We launched what we called an initiative to improve air quality in overburdened communities highly impacted by air pollution. We immediately began expanding our monitoring program, established a grant program to facilitate community projects, and began rulemaking around processes and strategies for emission reductions to achieve air quality targets.   

Get Involved in rulemaking; Provide Your input  

On November 14, 2025, following a series of workshops, Ecology posted early preliminary draft rule language, inviting feedback and input. Please let us know what you like or dislike, and if you have suggestions for alternative ways to meet the goals and objectives of the statute.
