Westport Shoreline Master Program Periodic Review Amendment Public Comment Period: August 8, 2023 – September 8, 2023 The Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) seeks comments on the City of Westport (City) Periodic Review Amendment to its Shoreline Master Program (SMP). Authority for the amendment is based on Washington’s Shoreline Management Act (Ch. 90.58 RCW) and related rules. The City’s amendment proposes changes to the existing SMP to ensure it is current with changes in state law, changes in other City plans and regulations, and other changed circumstances. The proposed changes incorporate ocean use policies, regulations, and procedures consistent with the Ocean Resource Management Act and the state’s Marine Spatial Plan; update the City’s shoreline critical areas regulations consistent with best available science; and clarify permitting requirements. Ecology will compare the City’s amendment to the requirements of the Shoreline Management Act (Chapter 90.58 RCW) and the SMP Guidelines (WAC 173-26). At the conclusion of our formal review, Ecology’s Director must decide to approve the amendment as submitted, approve it with required changes and/or recommended changes, or deny approval.
