Timberworks - A flood resiliency and restoration plan for the cities of Aberdeen and Hoquiam

North Shore Levee Project Open House
9/20/2016
Rotary Log Pavilion, 1401 Sargent Blvd, Aberdeen, WA 98520

The Cities of Aberdeen and Hoquiam will be hosting an open house for the general public on Tuesday, September 20th 2016 regarding the North Shore Levee Project.  The open house will be at 6:30pm at the Rotary Log Pavilion, 1401 Sargent Blvd, Aberdeen, WA 98520.

The North Shore Levee – a proposed system of earthen dikes, floodwalls, raised roadways, and pump stations – is a partnership between the Cities of Aberdeen and Hoquiam to provide comprehensive flood protection and flood insurance relief to our community. Continuing where Aberdeen’s Southside Levee left off, the North Shore Levee’s target area of protection is bordered by the Hoquiam River on the west, Grays Harbor and the Chehalis River on the south, and the Wishkah River on the east. This project is the next step towards the ultimate goal of providing protection for all our lowland areas.

Since spring of this year, consultants have been collecting data and performing preliminary analyses. We are now faced with the task of selecting an alignment before proceeding with design.  Owners of properties near the anticipated alignment of the proposed North Shore Levee have been invited to special neighborhood meetings to share thoughts and concerns regarding potential impacts to property.

The North Shore Levee Project is coordinated with the Timberworks Resiliency and Restoration Master Plan.  Together with consultants, the cities are developing a framework and action plan for a multiple benefit approach to addressing flooding issues in the communities of Aberdeen and Hoquiam.  For more information on these projects visit: www.ezview.wa.gov/aberdeenfloodrelief
