2012 Funding -- $47,000 (12/20/2012).

2013-15 Funding -- $270,000 (1/10/2014).

Description -- The northeast area of Aberdeen is partially protected by a dike along the Chehalis River behind the Wal-Mart/Gateway Plaza mall area.  When extreme conditions exist the water will flood the area from the Wishkah River north of the highway.  Raising the local road elevations adjacent to the east bank of the Wishkah River (between Kansas St. and Chehalis St.) and installing tide gates would create a dike which would reduce flooding frequency.  The proposed project is listed in the City of Aberdeen's Public Works Master Project List (January 20II) and would be located primarily on existing public right of ways with small portions on an easement on upland ground specifically obtained for the project.  Present need is for preliminary engineering design, costing.  The design and elevation of the dike will not meet Army Corp standards for a certified levee and it is not the plan to create a situation which will legally remove any property from the flood plan.  Intent of project is to reduce the frequency and duration of flooding.  This phase of project will be completed by end of the year 2013.

Flood Hazard Reduction Benefits -- The dike/levee project prevents flood waters from entering important commercial areas and properties within the city limits of Aberdeen.

Project Status -- Project Discontinued.
