Description -- Project design work is needed to identify alternatives to protect Montesano Road, Montesano Sewage Treatment Plant and Mary's River Lumber from significant bank and soil erosion events. Preliminary emergency repair options being considered include: Installation of a sheet pile wall along a 140-foot section of the river bank north of the sawmill building; and Bank armoring of the river bank along a 600-foot section south of the mill (adjacent to lumber storage yard). Longer-term solutions are needed. Design work is considering several revetments to absorb energy and protect the shoreline. The total length of sheet pile at the WWTP is 1482 LF and Mary’s River Mill is 1565 LF.
Flood Hazard Reduction Benefits -- The intended flood safety benefit for the proposed project is to preserve jobs and critical facilities threatened by the loss of Montesano Road, Montesano Sewage Treatment Plant and Mary's River Lumber (120 family wage jobs).
