Description -- The City of Montesano waste water treatment plant (WWTP) is located along the Wynoochee River near its confluence with the Chehalis River.  Movement of the river toward the WWTP threatens the integrity and functionality of the WWTP.  The project is to fund a design solution to prevent further threat or harm to the banks of the river and treatment plant.  Possible design solutions include installation of three two-hundred foot rock groins to deflect river flow and further erosion, installation of sheet pile wall with engineered log jams and/or river retraining.

Flood Hazard Reduction Benefits -- Failure (or loss) of critical elements of the treatment plant would be an unfortunate and expensive infrastructure and environmental disaster.

Project Status -- On-Track, Underway.

Schedule/Milestones -- Current schedule is as follows:
  • March 2016 -- Draft Design Study.
  • June-October 2016 -- Final Design Study.
  • July 2017 -- Preferred design solution (Phase I) and permitting applications.
