The Washington Department of Ecology drafted guidance to help property owners, developers, contractors, local governments, and other businesses identify and manage sources of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in building materials. We will use this website to share documents and project details with stakeholders.

Ecology’s guidance documents

The PCBs in building materials team published two guidance documents in October 2022:

• How to Find and Address PCBs in Building Materials
• How to Estimate Abatement Project Costs for PCBs in Building Materials

These materials will help:

• Identify and characterize PCBs in building materials.
• Address PCB sources safely when demolishing and renovating.
• Understand the potential costs associated with these activities.
• Understand Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and Washington State regulatory requirements.
